To confirm the booking a 25% deposit + administration fees + cost of cancellation insurance (if taken out) must reach us within 7 days of the contract’s being drawn up for on-line bookings, within 10 days for bookings made in other ways.
The balance of the rent must be paid 1 month before you arrive in the gîte.

Payment can be made by cheque, Gîtes de France gift vouchers, bank card, bank transfer, postal order.
The cost of optional cancellation insurance is based on your contract (4% of cost of stay). We warmly recommend that you read our cancellation terms before deciding whether or not to take out this insurance:

Book your gîte, guesthouse, stop-over and group gîte, campsite, directly with the owner

The owner sends you a 'Gîtes de France' rental contract plus full details of the property (mandatory for gîtes), either attached to an e-mail or sent by post (depending on his/her equipment).
A 25% deposit is required. You pay the balance to the owner on arrival in the gîte.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash. Some owners can take bank cards: ask for information on accepted payment methods when you make the initial booking.

Damage deposit

You are required to pay a damage deposit when you go through the inventory/state of repair with the owner, on arrival. The average amount is 230€. It can be more than this (the amount is given in the property details sent with the contract). This damage deposit cheque cheque is not cashed. If no damage is found when the property is checked at the end of your stay the damage deposit is returned to you when you leave or within 7 days (maximum) of your departure.

Electricity and heating

Rent for the gîte includes 8 kWh electricity/day (meter is read on arrival and departure).
When heating is not included in rent this extra charge is paid directly to the owner: actual consumption if electric heating (meter reading), fixed cost if another heating method.

Tourist tax

Some districts charge tourist tax. It is (nearly always) paid to the owner. The tax is based on a rate per person per day (ask owner for exact amount).

Capacity of your rented property

The capacity shown on the rental contract must not be exceeded. If their prior agreement has not been secured, owners can ask you to pay extra or even refuse additional people. Enquire when you make the initial booking.

Pets

Three possibilities: pet(s) allowed at no extra charge, not allowed, you have to pay (pictogram on property details).
Only one pet allowed in rented properties. If you have several pets you must secure the owner’s prior agreement before booking the property. Some owners allow pets at no extra charge. Others allow pets in return for the payment of a daily pet fee, and/or payment of a pet damage deposit and/or payment of a fixed pet cleaning charge. Enquire when you make the initial booking.

Additional information: when you book on-line or via the central booking service the daily pet fee and/or fixed pet cleaning charge must be paid at the same time as the holiday rental.

Bed linen and cleaning options

  • Bed linen: as a general rule, bed linen is not supplied in gîtes – you will only find blankets and/or duvets. However, some owners provide them free-of-charge and others have them for hire (contact owner to find out the cost). The same applies to towels and household linen..
  • Cleaning: cleaning is the tenants’ responsibility during and at the end of their stay. The accommodation must be left in a clean and proper condition. If this is not the case you will be charged for cleaning..

Additional information: for some gîtes, when you book on-line or via the central booking service, you can pay for bed linen hire and the fixed cleaning charge at the same time as the holiday rental.

Swimming pool on place

There are no lifeguards. All swimming pools have protection systems that comply with current safety standards.
Tenants of rented property with a swimming pool must be vigilant and ensure constant, active supervision of the pool and of anyone likely to use it, especially young children..

As a general rule swimming pools are open from June to September. Some owners make them available for longer: contact owner to find out exactly when the pool is available for use.

Obtaining a certificate confirming your stay and/or invoice marked as ‘paid’

Your request for a certificate or invoice must be made to the Ardèche Gîtes de France office. If you booked your accommodation directly with the owner you need to provide a copy of your rental contract or the invoice for your stay.
